Tania Marx, a renowned accordion concert artist and teacher, studied for 7 years at the Kiev Conservatorium of Music, “Tschaikovsky”, in Ukraine with the famous Professor Vladimir Besfamilnov. She completed her graduate ( B.Mus) and post-graduate (M.Mus) studies, majoring in accordion, in 1990.

Tania has excelled in international accordion competitions. Of special mention are:

  • third place at the Klingenthal International Competition for Accordion Soloists in 1986 
  • second place in the 1988 Coupe Mondiale International Accordion Competition.

Tania was the first Yugoslav accordionist to become Laureate at these two prestigious International Accordion Competitions. 

An Australian citizen, residing in Sydney since 1991, Tania has continued teaching, performing and adjudicating internationally. In 1993, Tania made a concert tour to the People’s Republic of China. Concerts were televised and have been broadcast several times since then. The tour also included performances at the 1st Chinese International Accordion Festival in Beijing

There have been several concert tours to New Zealand and, prior to moving to Australia, concerts in Kiev, St Petersburg, Moscow, Croatia, Slovenia, Germany, Venezuela and Yugoslavia.

Since 1992, Tania has been the director of her own music school in Sydney, Australia. Recently, she has had several students compete to much acclaim internationally, with students being placed in the top 8 at the Coupe Mondiale, the highest ranked competitors ever from Australia. Her students have won many Australian national awards as well as awards in the USA and NZ.

Since Tania began her private teaching career in Sydney, Tania’s students have completed over 600 exams with the Australian Music Examinations Board in accordion, piano and music theory. Five of Tania’s  accordion students completed A.MusA exam with the AMEB : Ivan Liashenko, Ann-Elise Koerntjes, Nick Shcherbakov, Lina Chegodaev and Richard She.  Just recently, Tania became an accordion examiner with the same organization. Tania has been invited to teach students attending the Australian Institute of Music as well as the University of NSW.

Tania is regularly invited to join international adjudication panels at prestigious accordion competitions and she is regularly asked to hold seminars and master classes overseas.

In 2006 Tania was invited twice by the New Zealand Accordion Association to hold master classes with advanced accordion teachers and students as part of an ongoing development program aimed at elevating the awareness and standard of accordion playing amongst teachers and students in New Zealand.

In 1996, Tania was invited to write the CD reviews for Accordions Worldwide, the largest accordion internet site in the world.

In October 2005 the International Accordion Organization “Confederation Internationale des Accordeonistes (CIA)”, Member of International Music Council (IMCUNESCO), presented Tania with the Merit Award "In recognition of outstanding services to the International Accordion Movement".

In  2006 and 2007, Tania was invited to Kiev, in the Ukraine, as an Australian Representative and Adjudicator to the First Ukrainian International Accordion Competition.

In October 2008, Tania was invited to hold Accordion Master classes at the Shanghai Conservatorium of Music. Three days of master class were a success and resulted in a renewed invitation. Prior to Shanghai, Tania went to Tianjin, China, to serve as an adjudicator at the 2008 Tianjin International Accordion Competition.

Tania is also heavily involved with accordion activities in her role as the President of the Australian Accordion Teachers’ Association Inc., which runs the Australian International Accordion Championships and Festival in June each year.
